Your Dog's Learning Center!

Owned and operated by Theresa Richmond

Theresa Richmond has selected Joanne, Laura, Sabine, Barbara and Chris for their ability to understand dogs and people. They have been working with dogs for most of their lives and are not only dedicated to helping people with problems they are having with their dogs but truly enjoy teaching and supporting the relationships that they are helping owners to build.

Joanne Bramley is a retired elementary school teacher who resides in Queensbury, New York. In addition to training her Border Terrier Terra Nova (pictured right), she enjoys cooking, primitive rug hooking, snowshoeing, and painting and restoring old furniture.
Joanne is the mother of a grown son, Cole, who developed a wonderful relationship with his first pet, a Border Terrier named Marjoram. She came to the family as a two year old and charmed the then seven year old boy with her antics! Joanne likes to share her son's favorite story of Marjoram trying to chase a horse and carriage during a fourth of July parade!
Marjoram and Cole had that connection we all hope for between our children and their pets.
Joanne and TerreNova
The only child had a buddy, a partner in crime, a confidant, a roommate and the experience we all have if we are lucky: the absolute, no questions asked, always be there for you, devoted dog.
Cole once wrote a fictional story for his school newspaper, featuring Marjoram as the hero, pulling the rubber raft that he and his friend were in to shore during a thunder and lightening storm! Marjoram weighed fourteen pounds!
Under Theresa's guidance, Joanne began training TerraNova at the age of four months old at Mahogany Ridge in New York State. TerraNova continues training in agility, rally-o, novice, obedience and K-9 nose work.
Another goal of Joanne's is to have TerraNova become a therapy dog, working with the Reading with Rover Program in schools and libraries.
Joanne has assisted Theresa during KidsCamp! and is eager to be coming with TerraNova to Mahogany Ridge's first Virginia's KidsCamp! in 2011.

Laura has attended the Volhard Dog Training Camp and Instructor School with Phred and continues to help dog owners understand and train their dogs with this method.

Her education is on-going attending seminars and reading extensively about behavior, training, and dog nutrition. Laura has also enjoyed her own pet sitting business has years of experience in a veterinarian

.Laura competes in and instructs AKC Obedience, AKC and APDT Rally Obedience and all venues of Dog Agility. She is an evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen and STAR Puppy tests, a Teacup Dog Agility Judge

Being an only child, Sabine Compeyn has always had a dog as her companion.
Once married, she had a cat, but a few years later, she knew she needed another dog.  At the time, the family was living in Africa and adopted Zaria, a mongrel, who lived happily with them for 14 years, moving back to their home in Belgium and then to the United States.
After their one year journey in Asia, they adopted two rescue dogs.  Sabine became involved in dog training and animal nutrition.  The challenges she faced with the female of the pair only strengthened her resolve to learn all she could about animal behavior and body language.
Sabine is pictured here with her Smooth Coat Collie, Rodin, registered name "Penseur de Rodin,".  His contemplative nature lives up to his famous name, "The Thinker," the well-known sculpture by Auguste Rodin.
Sabine and Rodin
Sabine has participated in numerous Dog Training Camps and Instructor Schools, annual Holistic Conferences for a Healthy Dog and Advanced Holistic Study Groups (by the Volhard's) as well as a seminar by Turid Rugaas.
A mother of three (now adult) children and proud "Oma" of Lucas, she has always loved activities with children. Theresa tapped into several of Sabine's interests by inviting her to be an instructor at KidsCamp! and TeenCamp!, first in New York state and now in Virginia.
Sabine lives in South Carolina and is looking forward to the drive up to spend a full week with the kids and their dog-companions.
Barbara Nagy’s career in dog training began in 1983. She is the founder of Patience Unlimited Professional Dog Training in New Jersey. Barbara attended the Volhard Motivational Method Dog Training Camp and Instructor School, and also followed the teachings of the late Job Michael Evans. Barbara also attended many seminars and workshops in behavior, nutrition, and training and continues to do so today.

Barbara and her Dobermans have achieved obedience titles with the AKC, UKC and DVG. Her current Doberman Jetta (left dog) is certified with Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc. Barbara set up the current R.E.A.D. Program for The Banyan School in Fairfield, NJ, where the children read to Jetta to help them improve their reading skills.
Barbara has dedicated herself to improving the relationship between all dogs and their owners.
Barbara is currently an evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Program, a Professional Member of The International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP), The Doberman Pinscher Club of America, The American Dog Owners Association, The United Doberman Club, The Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc., and an Instructor at Theresa Richmond’s Kidscamp! and Adultcamp! in Culpeper Virginia.

Chris VonFrieling, a retired National Park Service Ranger resides with his wife, on a small farm nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Together they raise Leicester Longwool, a heritage breed of sheep.

Chris's experience with dogs includes not only obedience but also Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Therapy Dog training. Chris has participated in Volhard's Dog Training camps and Instructor Training school weekend, Mahogany Ridge AdultCamp! and also attended Healthy Dog Conferences by Wendy Volhard. He has enjoyed volunteering as a dog walker and trainer at the local CASPCA (2005-07).  Since 2008, Chris broaden his education with many hours of agility training.
Chris and his labrador , form a "therapy dog team" and visit adult day care and Senior Centers in Charlottesville VA. During those visits, Sky's wagging tail and tricks bring a smile  and create positive moments for the the residents. In 2009 he became a member of the IACP  and in 2011 Chris and Sky earned the AKC Therapy Dog Title.

Chris loves to help other people train their dogs; his goal is always to take part in building a successful response between dog and handler. To provide assistance to other handlers in therapy dog training, Chris has developed a 3 week program focused on building skill and confidence. What is in Chris's dog training future? With classes in full swing, Chris would like to begin a dog training business.
